WEEK 8 - UNI

Cannot believe it's 8 weeks into semester already. The cliche "time flies" seems to apply more and more to me as I grow up. Only 4 more weeks til my exams and then holidays! It's also pretty much Autumn/Winter now, time to pull out my jumpers, coats and scarves. Anyway here is an outfit suited to a warmer day than today...

$1 thrifted blazer, Staple the Label top, Dotti jeans, Miss Shop Myer belt, Target shoes, House of Harlow ring, Seven Autumn Leaves necklace.

What do you guys wear to work or uni? I'm never sure whether I wanna be super comfy (trackies are a no-no though) or dress up. Although I'm slowly finding more and more ways to achieve both! Jeans that have stretch are a must-have, as are knits, loose dresses, boots and a good coat.

Happy studying/working guys, it's only halfway through the week and I'm struggling to get two assignments done by Thursday!! Eek.

OLEANDER

Have had the images from the Sara Phillips A/W '13 lookbook on my laptop for almost a month now...finally they are on the blog. I hadn't got around to it, meaning to go off and research the back story to this collection, titled 'Oleander'.

Now I've found out that the gorgeous prints that appear in Sara Phillip's beautiful collection were sourced from a dude called Earnest Haeckel, some nineteenth century professor who did some scientific drawings which are pretty incred. The intricate nature illustrations were mirrored and splashed across fluid frocks, cool wave hemmed mini skirts and pyjama-like pants. This is the result!

This collection, according to Phillips herself, is more mature than previous collections. It "explores the allure of darkness, deliberately drawing on the vulnerable realities of our world" — like the pretty but poisonous flower the collection is named after. I'm a big fan of Sara Phillips' signature prints the last few seasons - and you can totally also order prints of the Haeckel illustrations to hang on your wall. Time to go and match my clothing to my house decor! Woo I'm such a cool cat :D

What do you guys think about using ("borrowing") prints to put on clothing? I think it's a great way to weave a story into a collection.

Ph. from fashionising.com & art.com!

Shine By Three ♥

I have a slight (ie. mega-super-duper) girl crush on Marg from Shine By Three. She is such a go-getter and manages to somehow run a blog, work and study all at once, while looking like an absolute babe.

Made the little collage thing above with Paintbrush on my macbook, hence the dodgy look to it...enjoy!

WINTER WISHLIST #1

Tony Bianco - 'BRAVE'

Tony Bianco - 'DAYTON'

*****
Winter is officially here; first and foremost, this means boots season for me! I don't know whether it's the tough and ready-for-anything vibe they give off, the way they click, confident and loud, when you walk along the street or maybe I just like being able to stomp around without fear of breaking my shoes...but boots have always been my favourite type of shoe.

The two pairs above from Tony Bianco (seriously, what a man!) have really captured my heart this year. Top pair; sold by the chunky heel and the cute shaped gusset. Not to mention that the tab pull-on style brings me back to Grade Prep when little brown Chelsea boots were the only shoe I'd wear. The second pair? Tassels, studs and shiny leather - 'nuff said.

Does anyone else share my love of boots? Which are your favourite types/what are you going to add
to your collection this season?

MICKY IN THE VAN

On Monday night Kathy & I had the pleasure of viewing an A/W collection which ticks all the boxes. I was greeted by two hostesses wearing quirky and adorable headpieces, which are a tribute to Estelle's beautiful millinery skills!

Micky In The Van is a label launched by Estelle Michaelides which is wearable-meets-whimsical. Thick dresses for winter layering and boleros, bombers and capelets draw upon a mix of textures like neoprene, satin and denim. My favourite part of it is the prints - enjoy the pictures below!

Vases of flowers and fruit adorned the upstairs room at the Provincial Hotel in Fitzroy, Melbourne and the tea and jugs of juice were refreshingly sweet :) I mingled with fellow bloggers, the lovely ladies from Pybus PR and a few others who were all very enthusiastic about Estelle's second collection for Micky In The Van. I love things that are local and fashion-forward and I'm excited to see so much talent coming forth in Australia!!

The best part of Micky In The Van is it's produced in Melbourne. It was both an ideological and business-smarts decision for Estelle. She has invested in what remains of the garment production industry in Melbourne as she is deeply passionate about sustaining the garment production industry in Melbourne. I am a whole-hearted fan of local production and want to share all this with you guys because it's super duper affordable too!

I think it is just gorgeous that Estelle dedicates the label to her beloved nephew Micky.

Micky In The Van is available from:

The Estelle, 382 Smith St, Collingwood
Swoon, 109 Auburn Rd, Hawthorn
One Thousand Cranes, Melbourne Central,
Level 1 Lonsdale Bridge, 300 Lonsdale St, Melbourne

MBFWA • STREET STYLE

I love the individuality and flair of Aussie fashion kids. The bloggers, the editors, the fashionistas, the models. There were so many prints, layers upon layers, multiple textures in one outfit, wacky combos and the like. I have to say that it is so refreshing! If only we saw more of it on the street.

I was pretty shattered to miss MBFWA this year - perhaps next year I can sneak a little sneaky to Sydney for it hehe.

CUT OUT • DENIM

Stussy denim dress, Windsor Smith boots, Sportsgirl necklace & ring.

Two of my go-to pieces: my denim dress - I love love love the pockets and shirt dresses are so easy for uni and lazy days - & my new-ish purchase of the Windsor Smith Envy boots! I know everyone has them...but they are still a worthy buy for me because they are super comfortable and I've been eyeing them off for so long! Actually snapped this pair up on eBay for about half the price they are in store. Winner!

I've been trying to dress comfy for uni without compromising on style. Hopefully succeeding. Hope everyone had a nice weekend! I sure did I went out to dinner last night with my fam & then went to Highpoint to meet Hi 5 today lol! A friend of a friend is in it :)

Sneaky Sneaker Planning...

Topshop crop top, Maurie & Eve pants, Ash sneaker wedge heels, Alexander wang clutch, Michael kors watch, Necklace, Mac cosmetics lipstick.

So I have been wearing the heck out of my wedge sneakers as you might have guessed. Haven't had much time to shoot my outfits since uni has started up again...but here is a substitute for now - hopefully I can snap some pictures over the weekend or something.

I recently acquired the above-mentioned Maurie & Eve Paradise print jeans & they are quickly becoming my go-to piece - I get compliments everywhere I go!! :) How would you guys style the red sneakers??

Leonard St A/W 2013

This was definitely my favourite collection to be shown at LMFF Runway 7 presented by frankie mag!
I love the bold colours and the vintage-y feel to the whole collection, plus the clean cuts and quirky prints.

I am definitely hanging out for the reworked bird prints this season - the swans and hummingbirds add that little bit of uniqueness to what would otherwise be an old trend. The cobalt and soft blues are also a winner in my eyes. It's also such a practical Winter collection - beanies, coats and scarves galore!!

Which piece if your favourite from Leonard St this fashion week?? And which shows did you guys like the best? I also liked Karen Walker so I'll find some nice pics to post up soon :)
