We recognise today, 25th of April, as an occasion of national remembrance. World War I broke out in 1914, and the ANZACs (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) set out to capture Gallipoli as part of the allied forces. The ANZACs landed on Gallipoli on 25 April, meeting fierce resistance from the Turkish defenders. Over 8,000 Australian soldiers were killed over 8 months.
