Mister Mode Night Market

On Saturday night, the 25th of August, an inconspicuous cafe became home a hubbub of activity - the very final Mister Mode fashion night market for 2012 was just getting into full swing when I arrived.

It was a night of good food, killer vintage threads, kick-back music & lots of unique, one off and handmade bits & bobs. There were many well-dressed individuals selling their pre-loved designer clothes for a fraction of the cost, and of course lots of eagle-eyed shoppers keen to get a bargain.

I had an awesome time, and I especially loved the feel of the venue Garage Cafe on Berkeley St, Carlton. What a great location! The crowd there was super friendly and there were so many talented people showing their wares including Sevan and Anastasia.

With diverse products from gourmet cupcake stalls and cute as a button earrings to retro boombox speakers and hand-sewn collections of vintage shorts, there was definitely something to suit all people there, whether young or old or trendy or poor!

I brought my camera but only ended up taking a few pictures as I was so distracted by all the pretty things! I came out with a new string & bolt bracelet (I already have one from MAN the label I want to show you soon too) and one of Sevan's lovely lasercut necklaces (see last pic above).

Congratulations to Tish for an amazing night which appears to have been a great success, and can't wait til next year when it's on again :)

black & gold.

Here Comes The Sun sequin top from Beginning Boutique
Cotton On pleather shorts
Adidas jacket
Stella McCartney for Target bangle
Wittner 'Cookie' ponyhair boots
Half asleep/make-up-less fugly face

Sooo. I decided to give the sequin top I picked up from the post office on Tuesday (you might've seen on twitter or instagram) a whirl :) I love it! It's so shiny and sparkly oooh. Only thing is, the sequins scratch...wahhh cry. Oh well I still wore it, I think the prickly feeling on the inside of my arms is worth it. Maybe.

Oh and the black & gold thing was accidental - I remembered that I had this Adidas jacket lying around and seriously haven't worn it in a couple of years! It's so comfy and gangsta! Defs gonna be wearing it more again. Totes sport-luxe right?

Melbourne weather is finally getting warmer and my birthday is in a week and a half. Can't waittttt for Spring to finally be here!! Gonna go shopping for a b'day outfit next week, just coz I got paid extra last week for doing the Yamaha school concerts hehe.

Have a good weekend lovelies! & TGIF!

Confessions of a beanie-aholic.

Target aviator jacket, Staple the Label button-up shirt, Dotti tee $5 on sale, Country Road skinny jeans, hand-knitted by g-ma beanie.

It's been so bloody freezing in Melbourne the past few days, I've felt like I'm permanently freezing my titties off. Not fun! As some of you might know, I'm definitely a Spring/Summer kind of person, and spend most Winter nights curled up in fetal position in a Pikachu onesie on my couch watching Daria DVDs and eating rocky road chocolate. Okay, so not really. But I did do that Tuesday night :)

Anyway, point of this post is to show you how I dress for the bipolar Melbourne weather when I'm going to uni - I need to be warm while commuting there, but it's always warm in the lecture theatres. I like to layer collared shirts with t-shirts with jackets, and the one thing that is essential in my winter wardrobe is the good ol' beanie. I've got plenty - actually I might do a post showing you guys all my beanies, you'd laugh.

This particular beanie i hand-knitted by my lovely grandma who lives in China, I went there last year to see them and to travel for a month, and she was thoughtful enough to give me about 10 of them to bring home. This one's my fave cos it's got a pom pom on top and ducks on it! :)

Hope everyone is ready for the weekend - coz I'm pumped as! Going to a DJ comp with my bf tomorrow after work, and then on Sunday we're going to Yum Cha and the Werribee Open Range Zoo. Haven't been there for yonks, will defs take some snaps :)

What's everyone doing this weekend? And how do you keep warm in Winter?

Back to Baroque

Back to Baroque

Dolce&Gabbana floral print dress, 1 470 AUD / Versace dress, 595 AUD / Elizabeth and James peplum top, 345 AUD / Cape coat, 795 AUD / Citizens of Humanity printed jeans, 380 AUD / Gucci pencil skirt, 1 330 AUD / Yves Saint Laurent ring, 470 AUD / Karl Amber crystal and bead-embellished cotton collar, 175 AUD

Okay, let's forget minimalism. It's time to go all out! Despite what I've been saying about my wardrobe tending to be minimal and stick to neutrals and blacks, like any Melbournian, the past few weeks I've been seeing a lot of statement and out there things on the street - lavish prints, loud colours, opulent fabrics, metallic accents and gilded details. It's like being back in the Renaissance period, and I have to say I'm really loving it!

Incorporate a little bit of Baroque into your outfits by adding a brocade peplum top like the Elizabeth & James one above, or invest in a metallic separate like the Gucci pencil skirt. OR if you wanted to go all out, the D&G floral dress would be a stunner for any formal occasion.

Baroque - Aussie edit!

Jersey dress / Bardot vintage shirt / Mink Pink denim shorts, 82 AUD / Mink pink, 94 AUD / Zimmermann bikini swimwear, 260 AUD / The Last Judgment Leggings, 71 AUD

Bringing it back into a local perspective, it's not only the big name designers that are getting into it - there are Aussie labels and shops which are tapping into the prints and elaborate patterns and gorgeous rich fabrics too! A simple Baroque printed pair of shorts will update your wardrobe for the upcoming Spring/Summer just perfectly - so embrace the explosion of fabulousness in the fashion world by playing around with a Baroque inspired piece this season!

For more inspiration check out Elle UK's and Harper's Bazaar's posts on the same trend!

What do you guys think of this trend, and how would you wear it, if at all? :)

grown-up schoolgirl.

Sportsgirl navy blazer, Supre sheer shirt, Neuw pleated skirt, Tony Bianco booties, Dangerfield and Diva rings.

Excuse the mediocre lighting and photographs - these are last minute self-timer snaps on my point n shoot on a cold & rainy weekend, because I'm a total poser in all weather conditions just so I could show you guys what I wore :) Decided to go for the school girl look with the blazer, pleated skirt and button up. Loving the colour scheme - white, tan and navy are my favourite colours atm; understated and versatile!!

On Sunday, I went to a blogger's lunch for the launch of the lovely Anastasia's blog Stasia Fox (so go check it out!), and also her birthday! Myself and Anastasia, along with Sevan, Twee, Sophia, Dasha & Monica headed to Cumulus Inc which is a popular little Melbourne haunt in Flinders Lane to have a bite to eat and chat social media & fashion.

Unfortunately I actually have no photos of the food - we devoured it too quickly as we were starving, and it smelt so good. I definitely recommend it if you want to share a social meal with a few others. I have to say I was super impressed with the menu - we ordered a few salads, an antipasto platter and a seafood dish to share, and it was priced quite decently!

Afterward we headed to Zara to check out the massive sale, and Sevan picked up some goodies - then we went to Green With Envy to drool over the pretty things in there...actually they had lots of sale items too! But I really don't need any more clothes or shoes. Eventually we finished up at Melbourne Central with Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt!! Mmm delish.

On an unrelated note I can't believe it's August already! Looking forward to the coming of Spring which means warmer weather, my birthday and of course Melbourne Spring Fashion Week! I'm excited - I've already decided to go to Runway Show 1 which is ON MY B'DAY and includes designers such as Ellery, Michael Lo Sordo & Tony Maticevski! ♥
